Convert a PDF to grayscale (black and white)
Turn a colour PDF into black and white. Grayscale documents are cheaper to print, often required by print shops and exam boards, and easier to read when photocopied.
Every page — text, photos and charts — is converted to shades of grey.
How to use it
- Add your PDF. Choose the colour document.
- Click Process. Each page is converted to grayscale.
- Download. Print or share the black-and-white copy.
Good to know
- Save on colour ink. Printing in grayscale uses only black ink or toner.
- Check your charts. Colours that look different can become similar greys, so make sure graphs still read clearly.
- Text becomes part of the image. Pages are redrawn, so text can't be selected afterwards.
- Private by design. Your file is processed inside your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see it.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I select text after converting?
Each page is redrawn as a high-resolution grayscale image to guarantee no colour remains.
Will the file be bigger?
It can be for text-only PDFs. Use Compress PDF afterwards if you need a smaller file.
Can I convert only some pages?
Extract those pages first, convert them, then merge the document back together.
