How to Remove Pages From a PDF Safely
PDF organization · PDF privacy
First decide whether page removal solves the problem
Remove Pages creates a PDF containing the pages you keep. It is useful for dropping a duplicate scan, an obsolete instruction page or an unwanted blank page. It is not a full document-sanitization service, and it cannot remove a name from the middle of a page.
If you need to hide part of a page, neither Crop PDF nor an Edit PDF whiteout overlay is secure redaction. For confidential information, use a dedicated redaction and sanitization workflow, then inspect the result independently.
Practice: remove positions two and five through six
Download the eight-page labeled practice file. Use it rather than a personal document while learning the controls.
- Open Remove Pages, add the file and inspect its page positions in a PDF viewer.
- Enter
2,5-6in the page selection. These are the pages to remove, not the pages to keep. - Click Process, then Download.
- Open the result. It should contain five pages labeled ORIGINAL PAGE 1, 3, 4, 7 and 8, in that order.
- Compare the beginning and end of each removed section with the source. Keep the source until you are sure the selection was correct.
The expected labels are a worked example, not a claim about a visitor's file. Printed labels, Roman numerals and cover pages can differ from physical positions, which always start at 1 here.
Remove versus extract
If a 100-page file contains only three pages you need, specifying what to keep can be clearer. Use Extract Pages with those positions to create one selected PDF. Use Split PDF when you want separate output PDFs for separate ranges.
Reorder is a different operation: it retains every page and changes sequence. Entering only the desired pages in Reorder will not perform a removal; it is rejected.
Recheck information that refers to page numbers
Removing a page can make a table of contents, cross-reference or previously drawn page number inaccurate. Inspect these references before sharing. If you used PDF Fix Hub's numbering tool, return to an unnumbered master before adding a new numbering pass.
Document-wide bookmarks, attachments, metadata and digital signatures need separate consideration. Page removal is not a promise that every trace or duplicate of the removed information is absent elsewhere in the document. Do not equate a shorter page count with safe anonymization.
Common mistakes and troubleshooting
Removing the wrong page usually comes from using printed labels instead of physical positions. Check the viewer's page position and a distinctive heading. The tool rejects an empty selection, out-of-range positions and a request to remove every page. If you want an empty document, that is not a valid output for this tool.
If a large PDF fails, try a smaller document or a device with more available memory. Your source is not overwritten. A download may be saved in the browser's default folder, so confirm that you reopened the new file rather than the original.
Frequently asked questions
Can I undo after downloading? Keep the original. The website can start another operation, but the downloaded PDF does not contain an undo history for removed pages.
Does deletion improve readability or add OCR? No. It changes which pages are included.
Are my documents uploaded? Processing is local. Loading the site and Google verification can still make ordinary network requests; see the Privacy Policy.
